christmas 2011: also known as the year my card reader deleted all of my photos and i had to rely on my crappy iphone pictures.

scene 1:  sean graciously helps me bake a lemon meringue pie while i'm also making my grandmother's rolls, spinach and artichoke dip and lentil wraps (your traditional christmas dinner doesn't include lentil wraps?).  every inch of counter space (that's approximately 30 square inches) is taken up by ingredients, supplies or tools.

maybe next christmas i'll ask for a bigger kitchen.
sean's decides to ignore my instructions of "just measure all the ingredients out and put them in separate prep bowls."  he starts mixing the lemon filling in a frying pan (i don't think he knows what a saucepan is) and before you know it, the egg whites for the meringue are in the pan too.

sean runs to the grocery store for a second set of ingredients, we start over and the pie ends up turning out really well!

scene 2:  our family takes cookie decorating very seriously.  we're practically professionals.  katy made the cookies ahead of time and then we whipped up a bunch of different colors of frosting.

we worked down the assembly line of royal icing and tons of different sprinkles.   the kitchen was silent as we concentrated on trimming our edible trees.

that's a blue squirrel at the top. next to a moose.

oh wait no.  the royal icing turned out waaayy too runny and we ended up flinging it all over the kitchen while laughing hysterically.

scene 3:  anna's first christmas!  she slept through the whole thing, waking up briefly to skype with her great-grandmother.

i'm really excited! but i'm also really tired.  tired won.
we had a really great christmas even if we have no great photos to show for it.

and now, i'm in the middle of a bunch of projects that i can't make progress on because it's raining outside (I AM SO TIRED OF THE RAIN. WHEN WILL IT STOP!?).  it's not advised to spray paint indoors so...

hope you all had lovely holidays!

  1. i was laughing so hard about sean combining the ingredients. jon does the same thing! i always tease him when he helps in the kitchen "okay, read through the entire recipe first before you do anything!"
we drove home tonight and the rain changed over to snow/sleet. i think that's as close to a white christmas as i'm going to get.

  2. I don't remember using royal icing before this year and guess maybe we shouldn't in the future. The lemon pie was the best!! And, always love Gramma Wrona's rolls. Anna was perfect and when she did start to cry, Uncle Sean soothed her to sleep. A perfect Christmas.

  3. keep your royal icing in mind for a "base coat"--then decorate on/over it. the bakeries around here sell gazillions done that way!
