when we first got our dining room built-ins, i sort of just threw all of our non-ugly dishes and stemware where they fit. actually no, the left side is for cool colors and the right, warm colors. either way, i knew this was a work in progress and didn't stress about finding the perfect place for those detroit redwings glasses (funny though, i found the perfect place and it is in one of the lower cabinets. where no one can see them.)
since then we've changed things around a little. people love to come in and comment on the fact that all of my cookbooks are inaccessible. (they're above the windows in these pics) you don't cook much do you? har har.
actually, they're totally right. i mean, i cook most days of the week but that's because i'm too cheap to eat out, not because i particularly enjoy it. and i usually just look up the recipe online. but i'm getting way off topic here! the point it, the shelves have evolved!
so, here's the left side now:
and the right side:
i'm sure these shelves will change again as time goes on and we collect even more pretty things. but at least i can reach the cookbooks now?
*why yes, i am completely ignoring the fact that lsu CHOKED monday night.

Such pretty shelves and you've styled them beautifully! Can I ask? What pattern is that polka dotted teapot/creamer/sugar????? I love it!
ReplyDeleteThese look fantastic! I adore the way your painted gold tray looks as a display.
ReplyDeletethis is why i could never really have built-ins. i would feel immense pressure to have them styled oh-so-perfectly. :) glad your cookbooks are more handy now. i have mine taking up two full shelves in our new glass-front kitchen cabinets. my sister in law has a built in she painted a slate blue and then has filled completely with white pieces. it looks great - just like yours. you could even get really crazy and wallpaper the backs of the shelves.
ReplyDeleteAm new to your blog (and loving it!)...so just had to give you a hard time as a fellow slightly less apathetic sports fan. Roll Tide Roll! :)
ReplyDeletecourtney - noooo!! i knew someone was going to do it ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your built ins! And I love that you can change up whats on display to give them a fresh look!
ReplyDeletei like the idea of just changing the "accessories" rather than committing to a color or paper on the inside--and you've done a lovely job of it! esp the tiki hut. ha
ReplyDeleteIt looks great but change is always fun too. I get bored looking at the same things all the time. Did you ever look at the Country Living mag?
ReplyDeletemom - i looked at their site and they have a bunch of 'designing with white' stuff. thanks!
