i made my map!  this might be the official smona slogan:

sean and i always say we are awesome at vacationing together. we like to plan a few activities, wing it the rest of the time and (most importantly!) schedule a late-afternoon nap/downtime before dinner.  i always plan the day and sean always navigates.  i take photos and sean poses in said photos.  he even carries my purse if it gets too heavy.  see?  we are awesome vacationers.

so when i saw this poster, i knew how i wanted to change it.

i used my silhouette (electronic cutter) to make the stencil on some card stock.  i ironed (err, attempted to) the creases out of the old map.  and then i painted the stencil with a navy-ish benjamin moore sample pot.  it seemed easier than finding a craft store for paint.

when i finished i said to sean "i should have used a larger font". and he said "or a smaller map".  wompppp.  but i like it and i think once the bedroom is put together (uh, ever?) it'll look great on the wall.  or not, and i've only wasted about $5 and a few hours.

i was going for a stamped effect so i didn't worry about perfect lines.  and i hope to hang it by mocking up one of those cool roll-down maps.  more vintage map, less poster-taped-to-my-dorm-room-wall, you know?

and now, i just need a vacation.  or at least a late-afternoon nap.

  1. It looks awesome. I think I should make something similar for our room. I will have to think of another slogan to fit our personalities (Maybe it should be "F*** it. Let's get naked.) ha ha. This is SO much better than "Keep Calm and Carry On".

  2. I love this! I'm definitely not brave enough to hang "f*** it" on the walls, plus hubby would disapprove (he still thinks I'm a lady ha!) BUT I could probably get away with "screw it" on a smaller scale lol

  4. This is amazing! I've never commented on your blog before (sorry ... kind of a stalker in the not creepy way) but I really love your projects. And your living room :-)

  5. Oh, I love it! The size is perfect, and honestly, I love anything with gratuitous profanity. I had actually thought on several occasions how often you guys seem to be going on vacations - and really awesome ones at that! Needless to say, I'm jealous.

  6. it looks great!! if you are worried about the size, measure the side margins and cut a little map off so that they're even. the right side looks like it's bigger to me.

  8. That's pretty much my life slogan as well. If I'm not planning a vacation - or taking one - I'm kind of freaking out about it.
