just a reminder of what we started with...
when we moved in, we bought new appliances and painted the walls of our tiny galley kitchen. that was pretty much it.
here's the view from the dining room, after we had the wall opened up to make sure we could knock it down.
and after three days of work, here's what we've got now! as you can see, we're closing in that window to make room for cabinets.
the gas line has been moved, the water for the sink is in place and we found our first surprise! i guess the pipes in the house are cast iron and had about 6 months to a year left before they burst. so we're having to replace everything with copper, including the bathroom plumbing.
we've gone through the whole pipe bursting thing so we're both thankful it was caught now, before any damage was done.
except now the entire basement is covered in plastic and pushed over into a corner. our living spaced has been reduced to the living room and the upstairs. i can't complain though- shit is getting done!
oh, and thank you for all your interest in the bar! it has gone to a lovely new home!

Oh that time of living through a big reno is just SOOOOO stressful! You've got the right attitude though.....it WILL get done and it'll be gorgeous when it is!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see it!
the joys of renovating an old house.
ReplyDeleteWahoo! Goodbyeee tiny kitchen!
ReplyDeletedid you do a little dance when the wall came down? that was nearly always my favorite part of renovations like these (besides being totally finished of course). i love when the wall comes down and you can look at the newly opened room and say "ah yes. i knew this is what we needed!"
ReplyDeletehow exciting all around (even the new pipes). :)
why the basement plastic? will pipe come out of there as well? SO glad they found this!
ReplyDeletethey tore out the sheet rock in the corner where the plumbing comes in. i think it's being replaced there too. plastic over EVERYTHING seemed a little overkill but better to be safe than sorry?
Deleteoh, yeah, absolutely! glad they're getting it all!
ReplyDeletenow for the ones that flood every seven years?
what about the pipes for your radiators?
ReplyDeletei guess they're ok? some of those pipes are exposed but if we were to replace all of them we'd have to tear up the whole house!
Deletei cant wait to see it all done! im even excited about the pictures through the process :)
ReplyDeletei LOVE that you ended the post with 'shit is getting done'. bahaha! you rock. that is THE perfect attitude if you ask me.
Wow! Big changes! That's some grown-up construction, man.
ReplyDeleteThat is super exciting!
