we've decked the halls!  well, i took out about 1/4 of my christmas decorations and plopped them down wherever they'd fit around the house.  does that count?

i've realized that i am not good at decorating for the holidays.  first of all, most of my stuff is super old or hand-me-downs, so it's not like i've got awesome things to work with.  also, i hate clutter and our house is pretty small so i get annoyed easily (that sentence could probably stop right there) with the annual furniture rearrangement to fit the tree in the living room.

if sean ever claims i never do anything for him, remind him he has a cowboy's stocking.

also, people keep telling me i'm going to have the baby before christmas (well, mostly my mom.  who is neither a doctor nor a psychic, so we're good.) so i'm wary of overdoing it and having to take all this crap down.  either with a newborn or with a 39 week large belly.

so consider this brief holiday tour as my public service to make you feel better about your decorations!  i mean, i have an un-garland'd banister!  someone should take my blog away from me!

i actually love these trees and got them just a few years ago.

if i am still pregnant (i'm sure i will be- i know most first timers go passed their due date) and feeling somewhat human, i'd really love to hit up the after christmas sales to buy some new stuff.  i think i say this every year though and it never happens.  and then the cycle starts over next year.

i did continue the tradition of making a very ugly ornament for my niece, anna.  last year i used some leftover fabric from her nursery to sew a very lopsided star.  this year?  a felt "anna".  (that says anna, you guys)

i hope she likes it?

  1. Your tree is beautiful and everything looks pretty. I don't think of things as hand me downs, they are family treasures. I will remind you, your sister was two weeks early. I am trying to get you a tax deductions, HA!

    1. thanks! i do think of some of the stuff as family treasures. not all of it though :)

although a tax deduction would be nice for 2012, we're going for the first baby born in 2013 in the area. we can get on the news!

    2. Good idea. Also, I KNOW Judi and I would be glad to come hold, feed, cuddle the baby while you take down those Christmas decorations!

    3. there's also the insurance deductible--2012 would be fiscally fab...and pam is absolutely right! between the two of us "helping" with the cuddling, you could take down decorations AND go after-christmas shopping :)
meanwhile, i'd better get that pertussis shot moved up to before christmas.....

  2. I love that your moms are hoping for a end of the year baby for the deductions. that makes me laugh.
Your house looks great. I finally got the rest of our stuff up over the weekend and Jon said - "so, is it going to take you 3 weeks to take it all down after christmas?" be quiet, jon.
I actually buy most of my christmas decorations at thrift and antique stores because I like the old stuff. though, I wouldn't mind shopping some after-Christmas sales to buy some new lights. LED are apparently the way to go these days.

    2. i bought it last year at pier 1!

oh and make sure when you buy LED that you get either "warm" or "cool". i accidentally bought cool, tried to mix them with my old ones and it did NOT work. so i had to return them all and get warm (i didnt even notice there were different kinds).

    3. I don't know you Jen or Jon but tell him if he helps, it certainly will not take 3 weeks.
