my mom came to visit a couple weeks ago and i put her to work. i bought a bunch of flannel (in cute baby prints, not 90's plaid. i have no idea why i felt the need to distinguish that.) with the intention of making a crap load of burp cloths. burp cloths are the one thing i found we blew through (other than diapers, of course) that i thought i could make myself. i sewed exactly one before the bobbin ran out of thread and i was all eh, i'll finish these later.
enter, my mom. she knocked out about twenty of these in no time (thanks mom!). i got all of the fabric from fabric.com and paid about $3-4 a yard. so, uh, i think i saved some money? and i don't need to do laundry nearly as often which is nice too.
pulling out the sewing machine totally reminded me that i was making a quilt for adelaide. oops. i managed to get through four whole rows of sewing those damn triangles together while i was still pregnant. it's just so tedious! (especially to a horrible sewer)
but i'm determined to finish it! i'm guessing my best bet is to finish before i go back to work in six weeks. hold me to it!
on second thought, my best bet was probably getting my mom to do it.

you should have pulled it out. Too bad I don't have it here with me; with all the snow it would give me something to do.
ReplyDeleteMail it to her!
ReplyDeleteshe will have to figure out where I am living first! ha
DeleteGood idea!
DeleteI second McV's comment - mail it to your mom. She wants something to do and then when Adelaide grows up, she will have a blanket that was made by "mom and grandma". Even more special, right? :)
ReplyDeleteAs for burp cloths, my sisters-in-law swear by those old cloth diapers. So I have a ton of those (and actually, my sister in law embellished quite a few with fabric at the bottom) for when this kid arrives. I figure you can never have too many diapers, blankets or burp cloths. What else do they do the first few months?
I think I'm going to make a quilt, but I'm not going to be nearly as ambitious as you. I'm thinking something easy like stripes and then hiring this lady in town that has a long-arm quilting machine to put it all together.
PS - you still have 6 weeks left on maternity leave? How long did you take total? We should chat about that because I have 14 weeks available to me (8 paid, 6 unpaid) but I have no idea how much time I should actually take off.
I tried to reply to your comment in email but it didn't work! Anyway, I'm taking 12 total- a few unpaid. I'll let you know when I go back how I feel. If I would have wanted more, or less! Ha.
DeleteGood luck with the quilt! I've heard of places that will finish it for you- sounds like a great idea!
